June 19, 2017 Mr. James M. "Jimmy" Arthur, Jr., age 76, husband of Penny Hecht Arthur of 320 Westminister Circle, Union, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Woodruff Manor after an extended illness. Mr. Arthur was born in Union, February 20, 1941 a son of the late Ophelia McSwain Howell and the late James M. Arthur, Sr., and Jane Gibbs Arthur. He was a graduate of Union High School and Wofford College. Mr. Arthur retired from United Merchants and retired from the S.C. National Guard. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he had served as a Sunday School teacher. Mr. Arthur was a former Boy Scout Leader of Troop #48 and a former Red Cross Swimming Instructor. He was also a former member of the BPO Elks Lodge. Mr. Arthur was an avid Yellow Jacket fan attending as many Friday night games as possible. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Becky A. Gressette and husband Sidney from Rock Springs, WY; a son, Andy Arthur and wife Leigh Ann of Florence; three grandsons, Drew, Will, and Luke Arthur; two sisters, Amy Kosanovic and husband Ric of Murfreesboro, TN and Debbie Baskin and husband Barry of Charleston; three brothers, Gibby Arthur and wife Jane of Union, Robert Arthur and wife Heather of Franklin, TN and Charlie Howell of Charleston. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz. Active pallbearers will be Don Martin, Earl Hendrix, David Turner, William Earl Sprouse, Torrence Inman and Mack McNease. Visitation will be held from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the Family Life Center of Bethel United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 1705 Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC 29379 or Union County High School Booster Club, C/O Roger Bailey, 758 Sardis Rd., Union, SC 29379. The family will be at the home, 320 Westminister Circle, Union.
