James Aubrey Garner

Mr. James Aubrey Garner, age 90 of 300 Springs Street, Union, widow of Agnes Ophelia Mize Garner, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Heartland of Union. Mr. Garner was born in the Kelton Comunity of Union County, SC April 2, 1923, a son of the late James Gaston Garner and Lillie Sanders Garner. He was a graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and retired from Milliken & Co - Excelsior Plant. Mr. Garner was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Counting Committee. He was also a member of the Union County Senior Citizens and was an avid gardner. Mr. Garner was a Veteran of the US Army. Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Diane Garner Youngblood and husband Terry of Jonesville; a son, Ronald Aubrey Garner of Buffalo; a sister, Fay Nelson of Jonesville; a special friend, Faye Rogers of Union; four grandchildren: Michael Garner and wife Suzy, Stacy Garner and fiancé Tom McAbee, Kevin Youngblood and fiancé Cindy Nations and Ashley Youngblood West and husband Cory and two great-grandchildren: Hayden Garner and Houston Garner. Mr. Garner was predeceased by two sisters, Ruby Sanders and Hilda Proctor and a brother, Roy Garner. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, January 7, 2014 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alan West. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Steve Trammel, Ned Bell, Roy Little, Kedrick Garner, Wayne Garner, Wayne Hutcherson and Phil Garner. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday evening at the SR Holcmbe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Joy Baptist Church, 657 Pea Ridge Hwy., Jonesville, SC 29353. The family is at the home of his daughter, Diane and Terry Youngblood, 768 New Hope Church Rd., Jonesville.
