James Douglas “Jert” Harris

October 25, 2018 Mr. James Douglas "Jert" Harris, age 79, of 913 Browns Creek Church Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at his home. Mr. Harris was born May 12, 1939 in Union, a son of the late William Douglas Harris and Lucille Vaughan Harris. He was retired from Spartanburg Steel. Mr. Harris was an active member of Tanglewood Baptist Church as long as his health permitted and loved dirt track racing. Surviving are two daughters, Robin H. Belue and husband Jimmy of Union and Renae H. Duncan and husband Jimmy of Union; two sisters, Betty J. Pridemore and husband Earl of Union and Peggy. H. Branch of Union; and two grandchildren, Jason D. Belue and Casey R. Duncan. He was predeceased by one sister, Mary Virginia Harris and one brother-in-law, Rev. Robert J. Branch. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Tanglewood Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Charles Hutcheson and Rev. Gerald Eaves. Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Charles Adams, Ted Adams, Tony Harris, Aaron Eaves, Larry Belue, and Robin Duncan. Honorary pallbearers will be John Earl Alman, Vick Dawkins, Danny Erwin, Lecil Smith, Jamie Babb, AJ Duncan, Wayne Harris, and Buddy Harris. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 408 N. Duncan Bypass, Suite 6, Union, SC 29379.
