Mr. James Evans Pittman, age 88, husband of Dolly Willard Pittman of 216 Sweetwater Dr., Buffalo, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2026.
Mr. Pittman was born in Anderson, June 29, 1937, a son of the late Coy D. Pittman and Mabel Breen Pittman. He received a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where he was vice president of the Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity. He started his career as a professor at Blanton College in Spartanburg. Mr. Pittman later worked in management with Macy’s, McDonalds and Wal-Mart. He was a veteran of the US Army and served from 1960 until 1966. Mr. Pittman was of the Jewish faith and a member of Temple B’nai Israel.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Lisa Goins and husband Eddie of Buffalo; and Lori Murphy and Thomas Chasteen of Pacolet; three sons, Mark Murphy of Buffalo, Terry Pittman of Greenville and David Pittman and wife Kristin Pittman of Florida; grandchildren, Tiffany Scott (Thomas), Dalton Murphy (Josie), David Goins (Kiersten), Brandi Goins (Kevin Rufert), Matthew Murphy (Kyleigh) and Samantha Chasteen (Kyrell Owens); and great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Reid, Nevaeh Murphy, Haiden Murphy, Thomas-James Scott, Tripp Goins, and Tobias Goins. He is also survived by close friends, Billy Keisler, Mike Cohen, Ronnie Bullman, Jonathan Nance and Dennis Russell. He was predeceased by a close friend, Jimmy Belk.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Union Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services and will be at the home, 216 Sweetwater Dr., Buffalo
