December 25, 2015 Mr. James E. "Skillet" Morris, age 88, of 405 Toney Rd., Union, widower of Sue Head Morris, went to be with the Lord, Friday, December 25, 2015 at White Oak Manor. Mr. Morris was born in Union, SC on October 11, 1927, a son of the late Monroe Morris and Myrtle Johns Morris. He was retired after 28 years from the City of Union Fire Department and had previously worked for Milliken Company. Mr. Morris was a member of New Life Baptist Church. He loved music, singing, the Lord, and cooking chicken stew and hash for the policemen and firemen Surviving are a daughter, Elaine M. Lawson and husband Billy of Jonesville; a son, Robert M. Morris and wife Kelly of Union; a step-son, Charles Lee and wife Chrystal of Jonesville; two sisters, Lucy Putnam of Union and Ferol Kelly of Clinton; one brother, Raymond Morris of Union; eight grandchildren, Mia Silvers and husband Chad, Mark Lawson, Ashley Black, Chassidy West and husband Chris, Amy Ford and husband Cleve, Paula Morris, Jimmy Morris and Robbie Quinn and wife Crystal; eight great-grandchildren, Madison Lawson, Macey Lawson, Arden Silvers, Andi Silvers, Luck West, Riley West, William Yarborough, and Hailey Hamby. Mr. Morris was predeceased by one daughter, Deborah Gregory; one son, Jimmy Morris; and two brothers, Horace Vernon "Demo" Morris and J.M. Morris. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, December 27, 2015 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Shannon Faulkner and Rev. Ron Culberson. Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens. Active Pallbearers will be the Union County Firefighter Color Guard. The following are asked to form the honorary escort, members of the Union County Firefighter's Association, Marshall Wilkie, Brian Freeman and Brad Freeman. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church, 502 Meansville Rd., Union, SC 29379.
