Mr. James C. "Bonesy" Vaughn, age 100, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025 at his home.
Mr. Vaughn was born in the Monarch community, June 3, 1924, a son of the late George W. and Louise Lowe Vaughan. He married Johnnye Smith in 1947 and they were together until her death in 2009. Mr. Vaughn worked in Union all his life, retiring from Monarch Mill in 1986.
He then served as custodian at Mon Aetna Baptist Church and also assisted when asked at Holcombe Funeral Home.
Mr. Vaughn was proud to have served in the US Army during World War II, enduring 94 days in combat operations in Belgium, France, Holland and Germany (1944-1945). Along with many soldiers in the 75th Division, 3rd Army, he was awarded a Bronze Star medal for Meritorious Achievement during January 1945 (Battle of the Bulge).
Mr. Vaughn is survived by a daughter, Jane Vaughn of Greenville, SC and was predeceased by a daughter, Liz Anne Vaughn, a sister, Nell Vaughan of Union, and a brother, Joe Vaughan and wife Skeet of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Chris Allen of Elloree, SC and Betty Smith of West Columbia, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church Fellowship Hall conducted by Rev. Dr. Tom Tucker. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church prior to the services.
Active pallbearers will be David Hope, Robert Hope and his co-workers at Holcombe Funeral Home.
