Mr. James Edgar Whitehead, age 75, husband of Marlene Eller Whitehead, of 334 Riley Road, Buffalo, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, July 11, 2024 at his home.
Mr. Whitehead was born December 29, 1948 in Union, a son of the late Benjamin Murray Whitehead and Kate Smith Whitehead. He was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Technical College. Mr. Whitehead retired after 41 years from the State of South Carolina as a Meat and Poultry Inspector. Mr. Whitehead was a devout Chrisitan man, he was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church but attended Buffalo Methodist Church for 27 years, where he served as an Adult Sunday School Teacher as long as his health permitted. Mr. Whitehead was a Life Member and Past Master (1996) of Union Masonic Lodge #75, a Life Member of Union York Rite Bodies, and Life Member of Knight York Cross of Honor (KYCH).
Surviving in addition to his wife of 25 years are numerous nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Jason Smith and wife Joy of Union; a brother-in-law, Arley Eller and wife Brenda of Buffalo; a sister-in-law, Teresa Boiter of Lake Bowen; and his special caregivers, his nieces, Davina Sanford and husband Justin and Stacey Massad; and special caregiver, Patty Canupp of Buffalo. He was predeceased by numerous aunts and uncles.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Buffalo Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Jeff Farmer and Rev. Larry Goins, II. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Andy Eller, Brad Eller, Andrew Hammett, Justin Sanford, Dustin Grady, and Jason Smith. The men of Buffalo Methodist Church, Rev. Johnny Burgess, Jimmy Maness, Mike Moss, and Tim Neil are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services at Buffalo Methodist Church.
