Mr. James Arthur "Jim" Woods, Sr., age 81, husband of Frances Roark Woods of 1707 Union Blvd., Union, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Mr. Woods was born in Newberry, March 18, 1934, a son of the late James Booth Woods, Jr. and Maxie Hawkins Woods. He was a graduate of Union High School and attended North Greenville College. He was a self-employed business man having retired as owner of Union Awning and Ornamental Iron. Mr. Woods was a faithful member of Hebron Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher, Choir member and Director and had served as Deacon. Mr. Woods was a member of the Union Elks Lodge and was also a Hejaz Shriner, a member of the Union Masonic Lodge #75, Scottish Rite Bodies and York Rite Bodies. He was a charter member of the Horseshoe Music House Band, the Buffalo Opry House Band and a member of the Band at Rick's Place in Jonesville. Mr. Woods had taught numerous students guitar lessons sharing his love for music and his talents. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and special father-in-law. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Donna Woods of Batesburg and Lyda Cannon of Union; three sons, Randy Woods and wife Kathy and Kerry Woods and wife Marissa all of Buffalo, and Harry Woods and wife Kathy of Union; a very special friend, Brenda Williams; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Mr. Woods was predeceased by a son, Jim Woods, Jr., two sisters, Mollie W. Watford and Jean W. Meyers, two brothers, Clarence B. Woods and Donald H. Woods and two grandchildren. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and nurses of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home and Blue Ridge Hospice for their care of Mr. Woods during his illness. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Hebron Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brian Childers, Rev. Curt Bradford and Mr. Ted Baker. The following are asked to serve as the honorary pallbearers, former and current band members, members of the Senior Adult Men's Sunday School class, staff and nurses of Blue Ridge Hospice and Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. The family will be at the Buffalo Opry House, 118 Dana Tara Lane, Buffalo.
