Mrs. Jane H. Kendrick, age 83, of 265 Varner Rd., Union, widow of Bobby N. Kendrick, Sr., passed away Friday, March 5, 2021 at Mary Black Hospital.
Mrs. Kendrick was born November 15, 1937 in Floyds, a daughter of the late Henry Walker Hooks and Rosella Goodyear Hooks. She graduated as Valedictorian from Floyds High School. Mrs. Kendrick received her undergraduate from Winthrop University and her master's from the University of South Carolina. She retired after 33 years from the Union County School District having taught the last several years of her career teaching 3rd Grade at Buffalo Elementary. Mrs. Kendrick continued long-term subbing for five additional years after her retirement. She was awarded Teacher of the Year on several occasions. Mrs. Kendrick was an active member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church, where she had previously taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir, and at one time lead the WMU where she was passionate about missions, especially Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong. She loved her Lord and her Church. Mrs. Kendrick was a volunteer at Wallace Thomson Hospital, a member of the Eastern Star and Woodman of the World. She loved Water Aerobics at the YMCA, music, playing piano, traveling—especially to the beach, red birds, milkshakes, cheering on the Gamecocks and the Union Yellow Jackets. Mrs. Kendrick was a selfless giver. She loved giving and receiving cards. Mrs. Kendrick loved to read and was very appreciative of the South Carolina Talking Library once her eyesight declined. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kendrick had an endless supply of love and always had a stocked cabinet of candy ready for them, she was known by "Granny" to all she met.
Surviving are two sons, Bobby Norman Kendrick, Jr. and wife Jackie of Pacolet and Scott Kendrick and wife Sherry of Buffalo; four grandchildren, Brooke Lee and husband Neal, Christopher Kendrick and Anne DeHart, Kelli West and husband Dillon, and Cameron Kendrick and Taylor Kanipe; five great-grandchildren, John Hunter Martin, Garrett Kendrick, Hadley West, William Lee and Anna Grace Lee; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Bea Cooper and Bernice Cooper.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday March 8, 2021 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Benny Green. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Neal Lee, William Lee, Cameron Kendrick, Christopher Kendrick, John Hunter Martin, Garrett Kendrick, and Dillon West.
Visitation will follow after the services at Union Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home of her granddaughter, Brooke and Neal Lee, 385 Bailey Rd., Union, SC 29379.
