Mrs. Jean Boling Burnsed, age 97, widow of Horace Brooks Burnsed, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
Mrs. Burnsed was born Union, January 1, 1929, a daughter of the late William Claude Boling and Ethel Lowe Boling. She was a graduate of Union High School where she was a cheerleader and poet for the Senior class. Her employers through the years include Lockhart Power and Monarch Plant for Milliken, E.I. Dupont Savannah River Nuclear Plant in Aiken, Union Auto Supply, United Fund, and Union County Civil Defense. Together with her husband, Horace, they owned Burnsed Florist in Union and Jonesville and later Burnsed Marble and Granite. Mrs. Burnsed also attended the University of South Carolina and later in life became a realtor employed by McDaniels Century 21 in Columbia.
One of Mrs. Burnsed’s greatest enjoyments was being a volunteer at Wallace Thomson Hospital. A faithful and active member of the Union Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where she served in many positions. She was gifted with a beautiful voice and loved to worship and sing praises to her Creator, Lord and Savior.
Family was something she cherished as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Anna Marie Doying and husband George; a granddaughter, Rebekah Doying-Talley and husband Jimmy; a son, Brooks Burnsed and wife Lynda; and granddaughter, Karly Reiber and husband Andy. She is also survived by her companion, Luther Allen, who together they enjoyed music venues, gospel singings and going to thrift stores. She was predeceased by a sister, Faris Ione “Pat” Boling Bolick Blakely, and her brother, Claude Richard Boling.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, June 14, 2026 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the chapel prior to the services.
Memorials may be made to the Union Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1437 Jonesville Hwy., Union, SC 29379 or to a charity of one’s choice.
