Jerry Layton Garner

Mr. Jerry “ Layton” Garner, age 77, of Lockhart, passed away at his home on Monday, August 10, 2026.

Mr. Garner was born on October 16, 1948, the son of the late Clearman Grant Garner and the late Eva Billings Garner. He worked as an automotive body shop technician for 20 years at B&H Motors in Union until opening his own automotive body repair business at his home. Mr. Garner was a member of Mt Joy Baptist Church, Jonesville.

Mr. Garner is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carla Jean Garner, their son Jay L Garner and his wife Anna and a grandchild, Bryson of Spartanburg. Mr. Garner also leaves behind one sister, Rev. Joyce Ann Garner Murphy of Cross, SC and a half-brother Clearman William “CW” Garner of Union, SC. He was predeceased by infant twins, J.L. and Crystal Jean, that died shortly after birth and two half-sisters, Vivian Garner Polk and Geraldine Garner Brauning.

A memorial service was held at Mr. Joy Baptist Church at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Mt Joy Baptist Church, Jonesville, SC. Conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Joyce Murphy.
