Mrs. Jessie Meadows Roberts, age 98, formerly of Lockhart, widow of Elmer Roberts, passed away, Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Heartland of Union. Mrs. Roberts was born in Patterson, GA, March 19, 1918, a daughter of the late Jesse and Alice Dean Meadows. She was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockhart. Mrs. Roberts had served her church as a former Sunday School teacher, a member of the WMU and had served as a director of the BTU. Surviving are three daughters, Jeanene Cook and husband James of Plant City, FL, Jo Ann Latham and Jimmie Ruth Gibson both of Lockhart; two sisters, Betty Baxley of Lockhart and Marion Slease of Flower Mound, TX; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Roberts was predeceased by a son, Nelson Roberts, two sons-in-law, Billy Latham and David Gibson, six sisters, Marie Harper, Catherine Lord, Joan George, Elaine Burkhart, Blanch Meadows and Mary Walker, and three brothers, Claude, Tom, and Miles Meadows. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 4, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Lockhart conducted by Rev. Delos Blanton and Rev. Don McCutcheon. Burial will be at Philippi Baptist Church. Active pallbearers will be James Cook, John Gibson, Brad Latham, Matthew Latham, Monty Latham, Michael Latham, Steve Robinson, and Mike Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Childers, Jantzen Childers, Arnold Childers and staff and nurses of Medi Home Hospice. Visitation will be held from 6:30 until 8:30 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Lockhart, Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, P.O. Box 190, Lockhart, SC 29364. The family will be at the home of her daughter, Jimmie Ruth Gibson, 408 Mill St., Lockhart.
