Joan Marie (Sherbert) Smith

Mrs. Joan Marie Sherbert Smith, 86, of Buffalo, South Carolina, passed away on January 19, 2025. She was the daughter of the late William Caleb and Lillian Elizabeth Sherbert, also of Buffalo. Joan was employed with United Merchants, Buffalo Plant, for over 30 years until the plant closed in 1995. She was also employed with Union County School District for several years before her retirement. Joan was a lifelong member of Putman Baptist Church where she faithfully served in the choir, children's church and nursery.

Mrs. Smith is survived by son, Rickey Smith and wife, Kay, of Columbia; daughter, Betsy Smith Smoak and husband, Jeremiah, of Irmo; six grandchildren, Alan Caleb Smith and wife, Kirsten, Hannah Smith Atkinson, and husband, Tom, Angus Miles Smoak, June Alyse Kinney, Nash Lawson Kinney and Ellie Marie Atkinson. She is also survived by several special cousins who were as dear to her as siblings. She was predeceased by her husband E. Everette Smith in 2019. Together they built a beautiful life and family and were married for sixty-three years.

Joan will always be remembered for her sweet smile, kind words, humble heart, spunky personality and infectious giggle. She adored her family and showered them with unconditional love and support. She loved sunsets, mountains, beaches, shopping, dining and a fresh coat of lipstick. She and Everette travelled and spent time with friends and family in the Smokey mountains, Myrtle Beach and many spots in between from Missouri to Texas. She accompanied Everette on many treasure hunting adventures, and he spent many hours reading and napping in the truck while she shopped. If they were together, they were happy. We rejoice that they are reunited in heaven.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 on January 21, 2025, at Putman Baptist Church cemetery, 3692 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Buffalo, South Carolina and conducted by Rev. Josh Freeman. Visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

The following are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers: Eric Fleming, John Ward, Terry Youngblood, Steve Freeman, David Freeman, Harold Gregory, Bobby Boulware, Scotty Childers, The Goldtimers and Ladies of Putman.

The family would like to thank PRISMA Health Senior Care-PACE and the Heritage at Lowman for the exceptional care and love extended to Joan and her family during recent illness. Through them, we have witnessed the goodness of God and felt many angels walking with us. We are forever grateful.
