Mrs. JoAnn Thompson Bazzell, age 89, a native of Jacksonville, FL, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

She was born May 7, 1934, a daughter of the late Newt and Jay Thompson and was a 1953 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. She was married to the late Durwood Bazzel, who served as a Music Director of several Baptist churches in the Jacksonville area. Before her retirement, Mrs. Bazzell was Church Secretary of Highlands Baptist Church and receptionist for Gottlieb Financial Services. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in downtown Jacksonville and was currently attending Lockhart First Baptist Church.  Her faith in our Heavenly Father carried her through life's challenges. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan Bazzell, a great-grandson, Tyler Hinkle, two sisters, Mary Crable and Billie Milner and a son-in-law, Buddy King.

Mrs. Bazzell is survived by her beloved daughter, Martha Parker and husband Hank, of Union, with whom she had resided since 2012; a son, Woody Bazzell and wife Debbie of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Amy Seaward and husband Brad of Union, Darryl King and wife Leah, and Jeremy King and wife Amber all of Clay Co., FL, David Bazzell, Emily Fernandez and husband Bryan, and Harmony Bazzell, widow of Bryan Bazzell all of Jacksonville, FL; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by two brothers, Tom "Sonny" Thompson and wife Lois of Vidor, TX and James Thompson of Lake City, FL, and a number of nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, February 23, 2024 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Drew Rogers, Rev. Delos Blanton and Mr. Hank Parker. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at the chapel prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to be made to Lockhart First Baptist Church Building Fund, 126 Armory Rd., Union, SC 29379.
