Joe G. Hill

May 7, 2015 Mr. Joe Gratton Hill, age 73, husband of Cecelia Newcomb Hill of 419 S. Pinckney St., Union, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his home. Mr. Hill was born in Pocahontas, VA, September 9, 1941, a son of the late Joseph Elwood Hill and Constance Geraldine Edmondson "Connie" Hill. He was retired from Westing House Electric and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Hill was a former semi pro-baseball player having pitched for the Milwaukee Braves along with several other teams throughout his career. Mr. Hill was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Surviving in addition to his wife of 40 years are a daughter, Maurene Hayes-Peaton and husband Gary of Columbia, SC, three sons, Edwin Paul Hayes and wife Sheryl of Milton, DE, Norman Ashley Hayes and wife Robin of Chester, SC, and Lucas Aaron Hill and wife Amanda of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Hellen Gravely and husband Jerry of Pocahontas, VA and Connie "Bit" Wynn of Union, SC; two brothers, Roy "Pinky" Hill and wife Karen and Blaine Hill and wife Edith all of Pocahontas, VA; 13 grandchildren, Rebecca Hill-Jekanoski and husband Terry, Ezra Hill and wife Brittany, Robert Hill, Brian Burnopp, Jr., Alexsandra "La-La" Hill, Jacob Hayes, Abigail Hill, Lucas Hill, Jr., Mary Elizabeth Hill, Joey Hayes and Eddie Hayes Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Lily Jekanoski and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Hill was predeceased by four children, Robert Gratton Hill, Rebecca Estelle Hill, Garnet Wynn Hill and Joe Horton Hill, and a sister, Margaret Conely and husband George. Memorials services will be held 7:00 PM Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Ceres Baptist, 3747 Maple Acres Rd., Bluefield, WVa. conducted by Rev. James Moody.
