Joel C. Miller

Mr. Joel Carr Miller, age 87, husband of June Harvey Miller of 2668 Lockhart Hwy., Union, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Union Post Acute Care.

Mr. Miller was born in Salisbury, NC, September 21, 1936, a son of the late Rev. Coy Ralph Miller and Pauline Miller. He retired from Torrington Co., Tyger River Plant and was a former member of the South Carolina National Guard, Lockhart Unit. Mr. Miller was a faithful member of Philippi Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. He was member of the Union Masonic Lodge #75. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 67 years, June, are a daughter, Carolyn Hopper and husband Terry of Olin, NC; two grandchildren, Christi Barkley and husband Scott, and Katie Hopper; great-grandsons, Tyler Barkley and wife Hailey, Cole Barkley, Chase Kerley and wife Georgia, Dru Kerley and Kyle Kerley, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Joey Miller and two brothers, Ted Miller and Clarence Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Scott and Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Tuesday at the church prior to the services.

Active pallbearers will be Scott Barkley, Tyler Barkley, Cole Barkley, Chase Kerley, Dru Kerley, and Travis Miller. Members of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class along with Ronnie Crocker and Kyle Kerley are asked to serve as the honorary escort.
