John Harold Briggs

Mr. John Harold Briggs, age 84, husband of Melissa VanWhy Briggs of 919 Sardis Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Briggs was born in Laurens Co., January 2, 1940, a son of the late John Clark Briggs and Mary James Briggs Ivey. He retired from Milliken and Co., Monarch Plant and also retired from the Union County Recycling Center. He was a member of Sardis Methodist Church and was an avid fisherman and golfer. Mr. Briggs was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Vickie Briggs of Jonesville, Lisa Campbell and husband Henry of Union and Betty Jean Briggs of Newberry; two sons, Harold Dean Briggs of Whitmire and John David Briggs of Union; a granddaughter reared in the home, Marie Fleming and husband Eric of Buffalo; a step-daughter, Ashley Wallen of Union; a step-son, Nicholas Garrison and wife Sam of Pacolet; a brother, Roy Briggs and wife Katherine of Union and a sister, Doris Sellars of Macon, GA. Mr. Briggs is also survived by grandchildren, Reuben Greene, Tabitha Campbell, Casey Campbell, Lisa Cox Jett, Matthew Keith Briggs, Dennis "D.A." Davis, Amanda Dawn Briggs, Jessica "Jake" Keisler, Gabriel Campbell, Zander Campbell, Jaden Campbell, David Ares Brocklehurst, Michael James Wallen, III, Athena Wallen, Autumn Garrison, Everly Garrison, and Elijah Garrison, and 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great  great-grandchild. He was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Rogers and Mary Briggs Moore and a great-grandson, Bradley Lewis Greene.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2024 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Jeff Farmer and Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Dennis "D.A." Davis, Nicholas Garrison, Zander Campbell, Ashley Wallen, Matthew Rhinehart, Henry Campbell, Scott Laws, Jr. and Freddie Rogers.

Memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29303.

The family will be at the home of Marie and Eric Fleming, 2301 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Buffalo.
