John William "J.W." Mcabee

Mr. John William "J.W." McAbee, age 81, husband of Patsy Robinson McAbee, of 311 Wilson St., Union, passed away, Thursday, December 10, 2020 at his home.

Mr. McAbee was born in Union, May 4, 1939, a son of the late Griffin McAbee and Ella Mae Harris McAbee.  He was a graduate of Union High School and was a veteran of the S.C. National Guard having served for over 30 years. Mr. McAbee had also worked for NAPA Auto Parts and Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.  He was a lifetime member of Union Elks Lodge BPO No. 1321 and the Union Jaycee's.  He was an avid fan of Clemson Football, NSCAR, and Tiger Woods.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Rodney McAbee and special friend Kristen Hamrick of Union and her daughters, Brady Hamrick and Mabry Hamrick; a sister, Jackie Green of Union; two granddaughters, Jill Brooks and husband John and Jenna Vogel and husband Will; two great-grandchildren, Marshall and Sonora Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a son, John O'Neil McAbee; two brothers, Raymond McAbee and Boyd McAbee; and three sisters, Margaret Gaines, Catherine Wright, and Hazel Rutledge.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Scott Cobb.  The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Michael McAbee, John Rutledge, Terry Green, Jason Linder, Steve Roberson, and Bobby Roberson.
