John D. Montano

Mr. John Daniel Montano, age 88, of Campbellsburg, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Kentucky.  Born May 17, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late John B. and Rosaria (Marrone) Montano.

Mr. Montano graduated high school in New York and served in the United States Navy from 1952-1964 as a Photographers Mate Class A, and the United States Army from 1974-1995 where he retired as a member of the military police with the 125th Army Reserve. He also served for twenty years as a New York City Police Officer.

His surviving family include a daughter and son-in-law: Milene and Chuck McCall of Campbellsburg, KY; a brother and sister-in-law: Anthony and Gloria Montano of Orlando, Florida; a sister, Linda Lezzo of New Jersey; a step son, Kerry Fowler of Albemarle, NC; two grandchildren: Asilene McCall and John McCall and his wife, Stephanie; and two great grandchildren: Kailene Troxell and Kelli Lewis.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Anne Fowler, who passed away on February 1, 2010, and to whom he was married for fifty-three years; a brother and sister-in-law: Joseph and Carmela Montano; a sister: Ameila Auten; and a brother-in-law, Michael Lezzo.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
