Mr. John Fredrick Smith, age 66, husband of Alice Inman Smith of 703 Ballenger Rd., Gaffney, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. Mr. Smith was born in Union, April 5, 1948, a son of the late Carl and Clara Mae Smith. He was a self-employed repairman and was a member of Skull Shoals Baptist Church where he contributed to the church in various ways. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Lori Ann Crenshaw of Gaffney; five sisters, Doris F. Smith of Chesnee, Jimmie Hammett of Pacolet, Mary Ann Gregg of Roebuck, Frances S. Mullinax of Gaffney and Rosell Eaves of Union; one brother, Joe C. Smith of Gaffney; and five grandchildren. Mr. Smith was predeceased by a daughter, Joni Lynn Smith and her infant son, and a son, John Paul Smith. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, September 15, 2014 at Skull Shoals Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Randy Phillips. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Larry Inman, Montana Robinson, Nicholas Hollingsworth, Allen Inman, Alvin Parham, and Dean Ingle. Mr. Smith will be carried to the home, 703 Ballenger Rd., Gaffney, where the family will receive friends Saturday and Sunday.
