October 26, 2016 Mrs. Johnnie Jones West, age 86, formerly of Catawba St., Union, widow of Montague Madison West, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Mountain View Nursing Home in Spartanburg. Mrs. West was born in Union, April 24, 1930, a daughter of the late William "Bill" and Bertha Fowler Jones. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant in administration. Mrs. West was a member of Gilead Baptist Church and enjoyed volunteering at Heartland of Union. Surviving are two daughters, Susan W. Jones and husband Craig "Rip" of Spartanburg and Sandra Smith and husband David of Townsville, NC; a son, Rev. Wayne Cooke and wife Elaine of Union; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Cooke of Union; four sisters, Ethel Palmer, Leila Shirley, and Betty Grady all of Union and Edith Proctor of Jonesville; ten grandchildren: Crystal Owens and partner, Kirk, Jason Kimbrell and wife Mary, Emily Crocker and husband Robbie, Ashley Cooke and wife Mallory, Candy Caviness, Amber Addis and husband Blaine, Eric Bolduc, Monty Cooke and wife Tabitha, Jeffrey Cooke and wife Cherie and step-grandson, Christopher Jones; 23 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. West was predeceased by a son, Sammy Cooke, two sisters, Ruth Montgomery and Doris Cooke and a brother, Bill Jones. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 28, 2016 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will be at Gilead Baptist Church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Hunter Cooke, Jason Kimbrell, Eddie Owen, II, Monty Cooke, Jeffery Cooke and Ashley Cooke. The nursing staff of Mountain View Nursing Home are asked to sit in a group. Visitation will be held from 6:30 until 8:30 PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 901 S. Pine St., Spartanburg, SC 29301. The family will be at the home of her son, Rev. Wayne Cooke, 200 Wilson St., Union.
