Mr. Johnny Earl Blackwood, 82 of Union, SC began his eternal vacation with his Savior on July 15, 2026. He was the beloved husband of the late Peggy Ledford Blackwood and known as Sparkie to her. Mr. Blackwood was born in Shelby, NC to the late Carl Cleveland Blackwood and the late Bertha Mae Lavender Blackwood. He was a beloved father, Papa, Brother, and Uncle. He was a member of Faith Community Church of God.
Mr. Blackwood enjoyed working outdoors in his younger years. During his teenage years he worked with Prue Willingham Boat Shop, where he worked and painted boats. He graduated with top honors from Greenville Technical College Truck Driving School. He was the Plant Manager for Palmetto Textile. He was the Owner of J&B Trucking located in Spartanburg, SC until he retired. He personally designed and helped build three homes where he and his family created a lifetime of cherished memories. He enjoyed his last days watching the Atlanta Braves with his grandson, Justin and Homeland.
Mr. Blackwood enjoyed being a daddy to three daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Burton of Union, Pamela (Charles “Buddy”) Roberts of Union, and the late Angela (Tim) Phillips who resides in Heaven. He was well known as Papa to Justin Burton, Megan Roberts, and Ada (Lance) Kitchens, Ashante Hall, Rylan (Kayla) Johnson, Dillon Johnson, Dalton (Josie) Murphy, and predeceased by Joshua Burton, Courtney, Meleana, and Kinsleigh Phillips. He was also great Papa to Emma Kay, Heidi, and Lenna Kitchens, Nevaeh and Haiden Murphy, Carolina, Ava, and Rylan Johnson. He loved his fur baby, China Marie and his Grand Fur Babies Cooper, Bella, and Alfredo. He was a devoted uncle and known as the favorite. He was known as a one-of-a-kind brother to his siblings which includes: his sister- Pam (Frankie) Pandolfo of FL and his brothers- Jim and Bobby Blackwood, both of TN. He was also survived by his special sisters-in-law, Barbara Blackwood, Evelyn Ledford, Dean Dodd, and Linda Ledford and brother-in-law, Michael Amerto. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ken, Gene, and Ronnie Blackwood and his mother-in-law, Peggy King Ledford Amerto.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Faith Community COG (formerly Union Church of God) 1113 Thompson Boulevard, Union, SC, conducted by Bishop Steven McAbee. A burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Buddy Roberts, Lance Kitchens, Michael Fleming, Randy Fleming, Ray Bryan Ledford, Derek Worley, Rylan Johnson, Dalton Murphy, Chris Hicks and Doug McCormick.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Judy McClain, Sarah Coleman, Debra Hawkins, Chris Hicks, Kelly Tessnear, Misty Lyons, Lisa Wade, Amber Coxey, Kaitlyn Waddell, Cynthia Frost, Frona Phillips, Brianna Buchanan, the compassionate staff of Crescent Hospice, and Dr. John Flood for the exceptional care, kindness, and support shown to Mr. Blackwood.
