Mrs. Joyce Williford Candler, age 75, wife of Denver Joe Candler of 406 Maple Street, Union went to be with the Lord, Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Candler was born in Union, April 13, 1939, a daughter of the late Paul A. Williford and Christine Robertson Bradford. She was a graduate of Union High School where she was a player of the Basketball team and was the 1956 Union High School Homecoming Queen. Mrs. Candler was retired from Arthur State Bank after forty plus years. She was an active member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she served as treasurer and a member of Connie Springs and Jerris Garner Sunday School Class. Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Rhonda Crumley and husband Steve of Spartanburg; two sons, Keith Candler and wife Beth of Union and Joey Candler and wife Teresa of Buffalo; a sister, Lisa Funderburk and husband Daryl of Rock Hill; two brothers, Paul Dean Williford and wife Margaret of Union and S.W. Williford and wife Joan of Hickory, N.C.; six grandchildren, Erica Candler, Bryan Candler, Dylan Crumley, Logan Crumley, Colin Crumley and Maggie Kurimcak; two great-grandchildren, Connor Harris and Cierra Harris; and special friends, Anne Aldridge and husband Doug and Susan Rector and husband Jimmy. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ron Gaddy, Rev. Benny Green and Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Candler's grandsons and Cecil Brown will serve as active pallbearers. The members of Connie Springs and Jerris Garner Sunday School Class and former employees of Arthur State Bank are asked to sit in a group. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
