Mrs. Julia Mae Easterling Guess, age 97, of 114 Park Drive, Union, widow of Dr. Joseph H. Guess, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016 at her home. Mrs. Guess was born on Douglas Heights in Union, SC on August 22, 1918 a daughter of the late Robert A. Easterling and May Cullen Easterling. She grew up in Denmark, SC and graduated Converse College in 1939. Mrs. Guess married Dr. Joseph H. Guess on December 21, 1942 and they moved to Union in 1946. She was a lifetime Presbyterian and was member of First Presbyterian Church of Union. Mrs. Guess was a member of Union Jr. Charity League, Union County Medical Society Auxiliary, a founding member of the Union Cotillion Club and a member of the Friday Book Club. She had a deep concern for other people, she loved to drive herself around and meeting people. Surviving are three sons, Joseph H. Guess, Jr. and wife Emily of Denmark, SC, Robert E. Guess and wife Vanda of Union, and Julian Decherd Guess and wife Deb of Laurinburg, NC; one daughter, Mae Guess Chamberlain of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Alice Nicholson and husband Gordon of Savannah, GA, Gardner Guess of Denmark, SC, Carolyn G. Huggins of Union, Julie G. Boyd and husband Trey of Spartanburg, Julia Chandler Guess of Asheville, NC, Anne Cullen Guess of Pinehurst, NC, Joshua Clark Jackson of Swannanoa, NC., and Lauren Jackson Pelote and husband Eric of Gainesville, GA.; and two great-grandchildren, Cayleigh Nicholson and Jackson Robert Huggins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 3, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church of Union conducted by the Rev. Keith Morrison. Burial will follow in Denmark Cemetery in Denmark, SC. Active pallbearers will be, William Jeter, Norris Fowler, Dr. John Baarcke, Scott Fant, Josh Jackson, William O. Boyd, III, and Dr. Ted Keller. Visitation will be held following the services in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church of Union. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 101 W. South St., Union, SC 29379 or to a charity of one's choice.
