January 12, 2016 Mr. Julian Hames Ivey, age 79, beloved husband of Freida Spake Ivey of 101 Charlesworth Ave., Union, passed away, Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Mr. Ivey was born in Jonesville, June 5, 1936, a son of Violet Lipsey Ivey, who will soon be 101 years old, and the late Coley B. Ivey. Mr. Ivey was retired as a supervisor from Milliken and Co. and had also served as plant manager of Conso Product. He was a veteran of the US Army having been stationed with his wife in Darmstadt, Germany, in the early 1960's. He was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was a dedicated Sunday School teacher. He had served as President of the Union Shine Club and was a dedicated supporter of the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Mr. Ivey was also a member of the Union Elks Lodge. He was always interested in history and loved to watch western and war movies on television. Mr. Ivey was also an avid Carolina Gamecock fan. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter, Susan Ivey Cunningham and husband Jamy and their son, Jay Cunningham; a son, Randy Ivey; two sisters, Mary Price and Mertice Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Thursday, January 14, 2015, at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Chapman. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:30 PM at the church prior to the services. Memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, Debt Reduction Fund, 914 S. Pinckney St., Union, SC 29379 or to The Shriners Hospitals for Children, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605. The family will be at the home of his daughter, Susan and Jamy Cunningham, 106 Sunset Dr., Union.
