Greenville

Sandra Kaye James Kallman, age 75, of Greer, South Carolina passed away Monday, February 9, 2026 at Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum after a prolonged illness.

Kaye was born in Union, South Carolina July 14, 1950, to Harold Theron James and Grace Senn James. She graduated from Union High School in 1968 where she was active in several student organizations and the recipient of several awards including the Junior Charity League scholarship and the Deborah Linda Davis scholarship in her senior year. She graduated from The University of South Carolina in 1971 with a bachelor’s in education.

Kaye grew up in Union First Baptist church but later changed to the Episcopal faith. Her faith in Christ was evident throughout her long illness.

Kaye’s first teaching position was in the US Marines dependent elementary school at Parris Island which allowed her to live that year on nearby Fripp Island, enjoying the sun, sand, and surf. Kaye loved the beach and sun. If she was not living near the ocean, then she had to have a pool in her backyard.

Kaye loved to travel and visited many foreign countries including: Italy, France, Germany, Japan, and several islands in the Caribbean. At various times she lived in California, Texas, and her native South Carolina.

Kaye was totally devoted to her only son, Morgan Grae Kallman, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 28. His death was a major blow to Kaye; something she never overcame.

In addition to her son, Kaye was predeceased by her parents and her older sister Mary Jo Sherbert of Union. She is survived by an older brother Harold Senn James of Greer (Cecelia) as well as nieces and nephews H. Stewart James (Lauren) of Simpsonville, Stephanie James Liebenrood (Drew) of Lexington, and Scott Sherbert (Jessica) and Betsy Hudson of Union plus ten grand-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Brookdale Senior Living in Greer for the devotion and care provided Kaye over the last two years and to the staff at Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum for the kindness and thoughtfulness displayed in her brief time there.
