Kevin D. Burgess, 68, beloved husband of Wanda Edwards Burgess, passed away peacefully Friday, October 13, 2023, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Kevin was born August 11, 1955, in Spartanburg, the son of the late Maurice and Edna Knox Burgess. Prior to his retirement, Kevin worked at Phillips Drisco Pipe, Metromont, and as a small business owner. He was a faithful member of Gilead Baptist Church.
Kevin and Wanda made their home for many years in Landrum, SC before retiring to Jonesville. He enjoyed traveling, working in the yard, and riding around in his truck with his 4-legged best friend, Pickles. Above all else, Kevin loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, a devoted father,and spent his best years as "Papa" to his grandchildren.
Along with his beloved and devoted wife of 49 years, Kevin is survived by his daughter, Heather Burgess Jackson (Jeff) of Greer, SC and son, Joshua KevinBurgess (Kimberly) of Spartanburg, SC as well as his grandchildren, Ian Burgess, Will Burgess, Silas Jackson, Eli Jackson, Maggie Burgess, and Ivy Jackson.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ruby Edwards, three brothers, Larry Burgess (Delilah), Neal Burgess (Tami) and Paul Burgess (Misti), and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Kevin was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Burgess.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 3pm at Gilead Baptist Church, 748 Gaffney Highway, Jonesville, SC. A memorial service celebrating Kevin's life, led by Dr. Eddie Saxon, will follow at 4pm.Flowers will be accepted, or donations can be made to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Victoria Arlauskas, Dr. Peter Kobes, his care team at Gibbs Cancer Center (Drs. Nguyen, Allen & Dembla) and Spartanburg Regional Hospice for the dedicated care they provided to Kevin and our family during his illness. To be absent from our family means Kevin is in the presence of our Lord and Savior, and we have great peace in knowing we will see him again.
