Larry Oates, Jr.

Mr. Norman Lawrence "Larry" Oates, Jr., age 59, of Union, passed away, Sunday, June 30, 2024, at home.

Mr.  Oates was born September 29, 1964, in Cumberland, Maryland, a son of the late Norman Lawrence Oates, Sr. and Gloria Hardesty Collins of Maryland.  He was an alumni of Milton Hershey School and received a Bachelor Degree from Holmes Bible College. Mr. Oates was a Baptist Minister, and served as Worship Leader at Lakeside Baptist Church where he was a member. Mr. Oates was also a volleyball coach at Union Christian Day School and was a coach for the Union County Volleyball Club since its formation in 2017. He was a very talented trumpet player and vocalist who enjoyed singing in the choir at his church.

Surviving in addition to his mother is his stepfather, Bill, and a brother, Thomas Oates and his wife DeeAnn of Texas. He is also survived by Julee, Ross and Mike and other brothers and sisters from his Milton Hershey School family.

A memorial service will be held Sunday July 7, 2024 at Lakeside Baptist Church at 6 PM conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb.
