Mr. Larry Gene Wilson, age 82, husband of Rebecca Dobson Wilson, of 400 Springdale Dr., Union, passed away Saturday June 22, 2019 after a five-year battle with ALS. Mr. Wilson was born in Wellford, SC, January 9, 1937, a son of the late Russell Graham Wilson and Ruth Acton Wilson. He was a graduate of District Five High School and Clemson University where he was co-captain of the 1958 Baseball team that was the first to go to the College World Series. Larry was a member of the IPTAY for over 50 years, the Letterman's Club, and the Union County Clemson Club. He supported Union County Athletics and served as Booster Club president for several years. He was awarded the Net Berry Award for his Clemson spirit and tradition. Mr. Wilson was an associate with Milliken and Co. for 35 years. He loved the Ottaray and Monarch communities and worked there before moving to the Research Center in Spartanburg and later his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and enjoyed several mission trips. Surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years are his children, Joel Larry Wilson, Mary Kelley Wilson and grandchildren, Laurin Nicole Wilson, Peyton Caroline Wilson and Parker Graham Wilson. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 30, 2019 at First Baptist Church. Family and friends will gather at the church at 2:00 PM for visitation. The following are asked to serve as the honorary pallbearers Jim Cunningham, Doug Lawing, John Brown, George Ashmore, Bill Wingo, Earl Bryan, Hubert Sanders, Ralph Greer, Benji Brown, Mark Sanders, Paul Sanders, Kenneth Knox, Jay Allen, Aubrey Adams, Paul Davis and Harold Simmons. Larry's friends from First Baptist Church Sunday School class, the YMCA, Wingo's Tire and Austin Rehab are asked to sit in a group. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to MSA Hospice, nurse Julia Adams, CNAs Chasity Rochester, Courtney Jennings, Brittany Gardin and Caitlyn Nix for their love and care during his illness.
