Laurice B. Summer

Mrs. Laurice Bentley Kirby Summer, age 86, of Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., widow of James B. Summer, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. She was first married to the late Gilbert H. Kirby.

Mrs. Summer was born in Lockhart, November 6, 1937, a daughter of the late George Thomas Bentley and Myrtle McSwain Bentley. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and Cecil Business College. She was formerly employed with Milliken and Co., and with the SC Department of Social Services.  Mrs. Summer was a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church.

She enjoyed traveling with her family either to the family home at the beach or going on cruises.

Surviving are her loving daughter, Sheila Kirby Robinson of Lockhart; a step-son, James B. Summer, Jr.; and her pride and joy, a dear grandson, George Ashley Robinson and partner, Mason Hensley of Brooklyn, NY.  She is also survived by several cousins. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Steve Robinson.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, February 9, 2024, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ben Hill and Rev. Drew Rogers. Visitation will be held Friday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the chapel prior to the service. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Brent Greer, Mike Allen, David Turner, Scott Vlock, Mike Smith, and Field Cantey.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Sheila K. Robinson, 4649 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC, 29379.
