Laverne F. Shetley

Mrs. LaVerne Franklin Shetley, age 76, of 100 Pinewood Acres Rd., Union, widow of William H. Shetley, Sr., passed away peacefully Friday, February 17, 2023 at her home.

Mrs. Shetley was born October 27, 1946 in Union, a daughter of the late Quincy L. Roof.  She retired from the Union County School District.  Mrs. Shetley was a faithful member of Faith Community Church.  She was first married to the late Thomas James Cody, Sr.

Surviving are six children, Amy Cody McCarley, Nicholas H. Shetley, Kelly S. Wood and husband Kent, Barbara Bratton, Misty Hackler and husband Travis, and Billy Shetley and wife Darlene all of Union; a daughter-in-law, Janice Cody Davenport of Clinton; thirteen grandchildren, Thomas Cody McCarley, Lauren Gabrielle "Abby" McCarley, Karson Cody, Kelsey Cody, Alana Davenport, David Wood, Matthew Wood, William Brad Adams, Jessica Adams, Kandice McSwain, Kevin Shetley, Dalton Sinclair, and Caroline Sinclair; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Linda Holt Mayes and husband Joe of Buffalo; and cousins, Bobbie Barber and Andrea Whitener.  She was predeceased by a son, Thomas James "Jamie" Cody, Jr. and her grandparents, Bob and Bessie Franklin.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Faith Community Church conducted by the Rev. Steve McAbee and Rev. Alton Stone.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Nicholas Shetley, Cody McCarley, Brad Adams, Dalton Sinclair, Neal Barber, and Russell Sinclair.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM prior to the services at the Church.

The family wishes to express their thanks to family member, Carmella Adams for her love, support, care, and kindness for Laverne for many years.
