Lena Vinson Scales

Mrs. Lena Avenelle Vinson Scales, age 90, widow of Guy Wilbur Scales, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Mrs. Scales was born January 22, 1924, a daughter of the late William W. And Ida James Vinson of Jonesville, SC. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and Robinson Business College. Mrs Scales was a life long devoted member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women and the former President of the United Methodist Women. She retired from Milliken and Co., Monarch Plant after 42 years of service and was a member of Jonesville American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Scales was married to Guy Wilbur Scales for 65 years prior to his death in 2007. She is survived by her son, Guy Michael (Mike) Scales and his wife, Susan Little Scales of Jonesville, SC; her granddaughter, Rev. Emily Scales Sutton and her husband Marc Sutton of Rock Hill, SC; her grandson, Matthew Newell Scales and his wife Dr. Kristi Ford Scales of Greenwood, SC, her great grandson, Wylie Matthew Scales and great granddaughter, Isabella Kaye Sutton. Funeral service will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Glenn Ribelin and Rev. Carl Harris. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Brad Horne, Tyler Adams, Ricky McKinney, Billy McKinney, Lewis McDade, Kenneth Horne and Dalton Johnson. The family will receive friends after the service in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church social hall. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, General Fund, 1622 Kelly Rd., Union, SC 29379. The family is at the home of her son, Mike and Susan Scales, 298 Wheatfield Rd., Jonesville, SC. 29353.
