Mack Eugene Vanderford, Sr, age 85, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 5, 2019. He was a patient in Hospice Care at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Vanderford was born in Union County on January 16, 1933. He was predeceased by his wife, June Hendrix Vanderford, and was the son of the late Pete and Jennie Candler Vanderford. Mr Vanderford was of the Christian faith, and was saved by the Grace of God through the birth, death and resurrection of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who died for his sins. Mr. Vanderford confessed, professed, and accepted this blessing from God the Father. He attended Lockhart Schools and was self-employed as a wholesale automobile dealer. Mr. Vanderford began his career as an employee of the General Motors Company in Flint, Michigan where he assembled motor vehicles for General Motors. His passion in life was always centered on his friends and clients in the wholesale auto business, and he was a friend to many. He was compassionate and helpful to individuals in need. Surviving are a daughter, Vicki Vanderford Howell of Adamsburg, and, a son, Mack Eugene "Gene" Vanderford, Jr. and wife Cynthia Sloan Vanderford of Landrum; nine grandchildren: Casey Scott Watkins and his wife Monica Inman Watkins of Union; Jonathan Sloan Vanderford and his wife Kylie Allen Vanderford of Campobello; Sarabeth Vanderford Bennett and her husband Charles Gabriel Bennett of Wellford; Takafumi Arai and his wife Yuka Arai of Tokyo, Japan; and Itsumi Matsuura of Yokohama, Japan; five great-grandchildren: Andrew James Inman and Cohen Grant Watkins of Lockhart; Sadie Marie Vanderford, Mack Sloan Vanderford, and Jonah Allen Vanderford of Campobello; Rosamae Ruth Bennett of Wellford; and, Joe Arai of Tokyo, Japan. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Shirley Hendrix Ham and Ann Greer Hendrix of Union, and Phyllis Hendrix Stanley and husband John Stanley of Ontario Canada. In addition, Mr. Vanderford is survived by 11 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Danny Howell, a great-granddaughter, Bella Reece Watkins; three sisters: Kathleen Revels, Sally "Pid" Palmer, and Vernell "Doodie" Vanderford; and, one brother, Clarence "Buddy" Vanderford. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Union Memorial Gardens, 1720 Whitmire Highway, Union, South Carolina 29379 by Rev. Terry Rainey of Motlow Creek Baptist Church, and Ms. Donna Belcher Fowler of Campobello. The family will be receiving friends at the graveside immediately following the graveside service (rather than at their homes). Thank you to all friends for respecting our private time to reflect on our loved one at this difficult time. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Music Ministry, 373 Wesley Chapel Rd., Union, SC 29379. The family also expresses heartfelt gratitude to the SRMC 4th Floor RN's, CNA's and Housekeeping Staff as well as his Case Worker and Palliative Care Coordinator for their sincere concern for and medical attention to Mr. Mack.
