November 2, 2017 Mrs. Mae Gossett Bailey, age 82, of 618 New Hope Church Road, Jonesville, widow of Marion Eugene Bailey, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Bailey was born in Jonesville, SC on March 10, 1935, a daughter of the late Albert Eugene Gossett and Lillie Foster Gossett. She was a 1953 graduate of Jonesville High School. While working at the Union Mill office, she met her husband, Marion, of 49 years. Mrs. Bailey became a full-time homemaker after the birth of her daughter. In 1970, Mrs. Bailey and her husband were instrumental in organizing the Rocky Creek Water Company, which brought water to northern Union County. Mrs. Bailey then served as book keeper and later as secretary/treasurer of the water company for 45 years. From the mid-80's until the birth of her first grandchild. Mrs. Bailey also worked at the Monarch branch of Arthur State Bank. Mrs. Bailey was a faithful, lifelong member of New Hope Methodist Church, where she served as the organist for nearly half a century. Her most rewarding role was serving as doting "Nana" to her four precious grandchildren. Mrs. Bailey mastered the art of multiple diaper changes and bottle feedings for triplets, while entertaining a toddler. She leaves behind her daughter, Donna Long and husband James of Jonesville and four grandchildren, James Charles (Charlie) Long, Anna-Katherine (Bailey) Long, William Gossett Long and Patrick Alman Long; a niece, Karen Bailey Cobb; a nephew, Bobby Eugene Bailey; and her Gossett and Foster cousins. Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her infant brother, William Gossett. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at New Hope United Methodist Church conducted by the Reverend Doctor James Ivey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charlie Long, Will Long, Patrick Long, Donald Long, Jr., Mark Blackwell, and Jack Dill. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the S.R.
