Margaret (Palmer) Scarborough

June 5, 1937 — July 17, 2022

Jonesville

It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Margaret Palmer Scarborough, our loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many.  Margaret was a devoted wife of her late husband, Lee Scarborough a well-known businessman in the community, for 44 years.

Mrs. Scarborough was born June 5, 1937, in Union, a daughter of the late Sidney and Inez Childers Palmer.  Margaret, better known to her family and grandchildren as "Mimi," found joy in traveling, gardening, and yardwork.  She loved cooking her daily lunches for her family to enjoy and she certainly enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She loved her family and instilled values into her children and grandchildren.  She was the nucleus of the family and kept everyone close.  She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.  As long as her health permitted, she was an active member of Gilead Baptist Church where she served on the Fellowship Committee.  She was also a member of the Pacolet Travelers Club and the Union County Senior Citizens.  She loved and cared for her two dogs, "Daddy Dog" and "Baby Girl."

Surviving are three children, Tommy Scarborough and wife Deborah, Lee Timothy Scarborough and wife Cheryl, and Kimberly Peay and husband Buck; a daughter-in-law, Jill Scarborough; ten grandchildren, Chase Scarborough, Michael Brewington, Kevin Brewington, Tabitha Taneyhill and husband Steve, Hailey Martin and husband Wade, Hannah Anthony and husband Will, Spencer Scarborough, Thomas Scarborough, Macy Scarborough, and Mary Wolfe and husband Cooper; and five great-grandchildren, Bryson Scarborough, Greyson and Jackson Talley, Hayes Martin, Bo Anthony, and Ila Scarborough.  Along with her husband, Lee Scarborough, she was preceded in death by a son, Todd Scarborough and a brother, Harold Dean Palmer.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Eddie Saxon.  Burial will follow at Bogansville United Methodist Church.

Active pallbearers will be Heath Ward, Rod Knight, Wade Martin, Will Anthony, Steve Taneyhill, and Monty Bogan, Jr.

The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort, Ronald Fleming, Gene Horne, Donnie Palmer, Mike Kirby, Bobby Kirby and Wayne Proctor. Mrs. Scarborough's caregivers are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be from 1:30 until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Memorials may be made to Gilead Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 38, Jonesville, SC 29353.

The family is at the home, 1111 Jonesville Highway, Jonesville, SC 29353.
