Marian Alexander Gibson, age 89, a lifelong resident of the Philippi community in Union County, SC peacefully passed into eternal rest July 13, 2015 at the Sandpiper Nursing Home in Mount Pleasant, SC. She had been residing there for the past 4 years to be near her surviving sons Stan F. Gibson and Don C. Gibson, as well as to be with her 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Frank Wesley Alexander, Jr. of Union, SC. She is predeceased by her loving childhood sweetheart and husband of 70 years, Charles Herbert Gibson. Our mother Marian lived a full, rich, and productive life tirelessly dedicated to serving her church, family and work. Not only did she work for Milliken and Company for 55 years, she was also a gifted and talented musician having served faithfully as pianist and music director at the First Baptist Church of Lockhart, SC for many years. Most importantly, she was a gentle, kind, and loving Christian mother who spent her life building relationships and giving to others. As stated in the scriptures Proverbs 31:28: "her children arise up, and call her blessed". Thus, so we do. For most of her senior years Marian has been a member of the Philippi Baptist Church. She often spoke of the warmth, love and support of the wonderful people in their church family at Philippi. For this love and care the family is and shall remain forever grateful. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, July16, 2015 at Philippi Baptist Church, located 327 Philippi Church Road, Union, SC., with interment services to follow immediately thereafter in the church cemetery. Afterwards, the family will receive visitors, friends and loved ones in the Church Fellowship Hall for visitation and fellowship. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the general fund of Philippi Baptist Church.
