Marie C. Hawkins

Mrs. Marie Couch Hawkins, age 92, of 106 Halden Dr., Union, widow of Douglas S. Hawkins, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at her home after a brief illness. Mrs. Hawkins was born in Spartanburg, July, 15, 1921, a daughter of the late W.F. Couch and Annie Mae Davis. She was predeceased by her step-mother, Winnie Couch. Mrs. Hawkins was a 1940 graduate of Union High School and was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter Faye Hawkins and husband Dave Nesbitt of Blythewood, two nieces, Susie Gruver and JoAnn Segars. Mrs. Hawkins was predeceased by a sister, Florence Davis. Graveside services will be held 3:30 PM Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Benny Green and Rev. Dennis Spencer. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside. Members of the Faye Teague's Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group. Memorials may be made to the Mon Aetna Baptist Church Building Fund, 1431 Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC 29379. The family will be at the home 106 Halden Dr., Union.
