Mr. Marvin Burtis Farr, age 66, of Fernridge Dr., Spartanburg, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at the Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum.
Mr. Farr was born in Union, December 10, 1957, a son of the late Harry B. Farr and Vivian Henderson Farr. He was a1976 graduate of Union High School and had retired from Irwin's Ace Hardware in Spartanburg. Marvin was a talented musician, well known for playing drums and had played with several bands including Mountain Ashe and High Cotton. He was an avid collector of music memorabilia, especially for the Beatles. He was also a fan of the Carolina Panthers, the Gamecocks and the Pittsburg Steelers. He was a loving son, brother and friend to many.
Surviving are two sisters, Trudy F. Smith and husband Jim and Karen F. Baker all of Union; nieces and nephews; Jennifer Baker, Jason Baker, Susan Williams White, Chris Smith and wife Wanda, Marion Williams and Kathy Colson and husband Carl; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many close friends and co-workers who have been very supportive during his illness. Marvin was predeceased by a brother, Glenn Farr and a brother-in-law, Wayne Baker.
The family would like to say a special Thank You to the staff and nurses of Upstate Community Hospice House for the care given to Marvin and his family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, May 17, 2024 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ted Baker.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Friday at the chapel prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cancer Association of Spartanburg, 295 E. Main St., Ste.100, Spartanburg, SC 29302 or to Spartanburg Mobile Meals, 419 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302 or to a charity of one's choice.
The family will be at their respective homes.
