August 20, 2015 Mrs. Mary Harris Vinson, age 80 of 211 Dogwood Dr., Gaffney, widow of James H. Vinson, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at her home after many years of declining health. Mrs. Vinson was first married to the late Virgil Henry Harris. Mrs. Vinson was born in Burnsville, NC, April 8, 1935, a daughter of the late James Blake Monroe and Melinda Faye Hyatt Monroe. She was retired after 20 years in management with Kentucky Fried Chicken. Mrs. Vinson was a member of Tanglewood Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Marty Grant of the home, Jeanette Raxter and husband Raymond of Boiling Springs and Zoeanne Smith and husband Rick of Enoree; two sisters, Dorothy Goodwin and husband Ted of Fayetteville, NC and Annie Ruth Britt and husband Kenny of Elizabethton, NC; a brother, Lewis Monroe and wife Mary of Columbia; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Vinson was predeceased by two children, five brothers and three sisters. The family wishes to thank Mrs. Vinson's caregivers, Mary, Barbara and Donna along with staff and nurses of Homestead Hospice for their care and concern of Mrs. Vinson during her illness. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Tanglewood Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Branch. The family will receive friends after the services at the church.
