Mary T. Hodge

August 5, 1937 — February 22, 2015

Spartanburg, SC Mrs. Mary Tillery Hodge, age 77, widow of William W. Hodge, Jr., formerly of Union, passed away Sunday February 22, 2015 at Eden Terrace, Spartanburg, where she made her home. Mrs. Hodge was born in Kinston, NC, August 5, 1937, a daughter of the late John Arrington Tillery and Mary Daniel Reaves Tillery. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she received her BA degree in Education and she received her Master's in Education from Converse College. Mrs. Hodge was a retired educator, having taught Math and Science in the Union Co. Schools for over 30 years. Mrs. Hodge was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where she served on several committees in various capacities. She was a member of the Union Co. Historical Society, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution - Fairforest Chapter, the National Society of Colonial Dames, XVII Century - Colonel Jacob Blackwell Chapter. A wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Mrs. Hodge enjoyed playing bridge, serving her church, beach vacations with family and especially spending time with her eight grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Leigh Hodge Sterrett of Raleigh, NC and Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Hall and husband Robin of Summerville; two sons, John Arrington Hodge and wife Laura of Spartanburg and William Wallace "Billy" Hodge, III of Union; grandchildren, John Hampton Hodge, Benjamin Arrington Hodge, Virginia Claire Hodge, Cody Hodge Sterrett, Jordan Todd Sterrett, Sydney Reaves Sterrett, Rebekah Grace Hall and Logan Campbell Hall. Mrs. Hodge is also survived by her cousins, Margery Jean Hoggard of Surfside Beach, Elizabeth Kate Wolfe Latimer of Charleston and Dr. Leland S. Averett of High Point, NC. Private services are being planned by the family. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Alter Guild Fund, 201 S. Church St., Union, S.C. 29379.
