On November 12, 2025, Mary Ann Hollis departed from her earthly life to be with her heavenly Father forever. She died at Union Medical Center, Union, SC. Mrs. Hollis was born in Winnsboro, SC, on December 13, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Garris McCabe Ladd, Jr., and Dorothy Cooper Ladd. She was also predeceased by her husband, Lewis Barns Hollis, Sr.
Mrs. Hollis graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1963 with a BS degree in Business Administration. She worked with Manhattan Shirt Co. in Winnsboro, American Red Cross in Columbia, and John D. McCloud, Attorney, in Winnsboro. From 1971 until 2003, she and her husband, Lewis, owned and operated Hollis Plumbing Co., in Blythewood, SC. Mrs. Hollis was the Financial Administrator at the South Carolina Bar for a few years. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Blythewood, where she served on the Staff-Parish Committee, the Altar Guild, home visitation to welcome new babies, the Building Committee, the Worship Committee and was treasurer for the Koinonia Sunday School class, Oasis Choir and the United Methodist Women. She also sang with the Chancel Choir and the Jewel Tones Ladies’ Choir. She volunteered in other areas as needed. In her latter years, she enjoyed attending the ladies’ Sunday School class and Joy Club at Philippi Baptist Church in Union.
Mrs. Hollis was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), She was the treasurer for the Fairfield Chapter of the SC Genealogical Society in Winnsboro. Mrs. Hollis was very proud that her family, among many others like them, were some of the earliest settlers of America. The Ladd family has been in America since 1634. She compiled a book of the descendants of Daniel Ladd, immigrant from England, titled “The Ladds and Related Families, from Massachusetts to South Carolina.”
Time with family and friends was very important to Mrs. Hollis, especially holidays and vacations. She adored her family and enjoyed attending plays, games, and competitions, where she proudly cheered for her children and grandchildren.
Surviving Mrs. Hollis are three children, Dorothy Cheryl (Cherie) Chibbaro Wilson and her husband, Gerald Wayne Wilson of Union, SC, James Daniel (Danny) Hollis and his wife Lisa Marie Hollis, and Bryan Patrick Hollis and his wife, Meagan Renee Suttles-Hollis, all of Columbia, two stepchildren, Michael (Mike) Anthony Hollis and his wife, Sonja Maddox Hollis of Chapin, SC, and Patsy (Susie) Hollis Davis of Middleburg, FL. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jacob Anthony Wilson, Leah Camastra Wilson, Hannah Rose Wilson Abt, Sarah Ann Wilson Hill, Savannah Brooke Hollis, Daniel McCabe Hollis, Griffin Andrew Prill, Lydia Michelle Prill, Miranda (Mandy) Hollis, Jonathon Hollis, Cassidy Hollis Hall, Stephen Hollis, Kristine Hollis Pemberton, Rachial Hollis, Michele Hollis Stanley, Michael A. Hollis, Jr., Gracyn Hollis, John W. Davis, Jr., and Lisa Ann Davis, a number of great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, RoseMarie Chibbaro Nolan and a brother-in-law, William Allen Nolan. Mrs. Hollis also leaves behind a special friend and caregiver, Beth Walker of Union. She was predeceased by her first husband, Anthony Matthew Chibbaro, a son, Christopher Allan Matthew Chibbaro, brothers, Garris M. Ladd, III, and Richard Allen Ladd, a stepson, Lewis B. (Butch) Hollis, Jr., a son-in-law, John Willis Davis, Sr., a granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Hollis, and a grandson, Mark Anthony Hollis.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Philippi Baptist Church, Union, SC, at 1:00 PM conducted by Rev. Robert Scott. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM at the church. A committal service, conducted by Rev. Robert Scott will follow at 3:30 PM at the Trinity United Methodist/Sandy Level Baptist Church Cemetery, 408 Blythewood Rd., Blythewood, SC.
The family is at the home, 4074 Cross Keys Hwy., Union, SC.
