Mary Scales Murphy

Mrs. Mary Scales Murphy, age 99, widow of H.M "Maxie" Murphy, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023.

Mrs. Murphy was born in Union, April 8, 1924, a daughter of the late Clyde and Josie Faucett Scales. She was a 1941 graduate of Union High School where she was Valedictorian of her senior class. She then attended Myer's College after high school. Mrs. Muphy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother and was a member of New Life Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Maxie "Gene" Murphy and fiancée, Suzy Brooks, and Ricky Murphy and wife Jennifer all of Union; a granddaughter, Amanda McDade and husband, Lt. Col. Adam McDade of Dixon, CA; and two grandsons, Gene Murphy and Stefan Murphy and wife Melisa all of Union. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Ivy, Lindsey, Hayden, Colton, Lila and Emma, one great-great granddaughter, Leigh Anne and two great great grandsons, Mac and Cal. Mrs. Murphy was predeceased by a brother, W.J. Scales.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Guy Langston. Entombment will follow at Union Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at the chapel prior to the services.
