Mary Arthur Sims Powers

July 5, 2015 Mrs. Mary Arthur Sims Powers, age 85 of 420 Santuck Drive, Union, widow of Don W. Powers, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Heartland of Union. Mrs. Powers was born in Goshen Hill section of Union County April 27, 1930, a daughter of the late Ernest Sims and Anna Lee Bailey Sims. She was a graduate of Whitmire High School and had attended Spartanburg Methodist College. Mrs. Powers was retired from the Credit Bureau of Charlotte, Charlotte, NC where she had served twenty-six and one-half years. She was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church where she was a member of the W.S. Whitener Sunday School Class, the Eugenia Smith Circle and the Merry Methodist. Surviving are a sister, Ruth Sims Smith and husband Rudy of Carlisle and a number of nieces and nephews including Ricky Smith and wife Wendy of Union who were her care givers. Mrs. Powers was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Sims Boyce King and five brothers, Ray, Lewis, Marion, Gordon and Joe Sims. Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held 4:00-5:00 PM Tuesday evening in the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Duncan Acres United Methodist Church, 417 Rice Avenue, Union, SC 29379. The family is at the home of her nephew, Ricky and Wendy Smith, 420 Santuc Drive, Union.
