August 11, 2016 Mrs. Mary Jane Williford Wilson, age 62 wife of Charles William "Charlie" Wilson, Jr., of 132 Phillips Rd., Union, passed away, Monday, August 8, 2016 at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, WA. After a ten-year battle with cancer, Mrs. Wilson was in Washington participating with the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in CAR T Cell treatment. She was always proud to know that her participation would also help others. Mrs. Wilson was born in Union, SC on January 8, 1954 a daughter of the late George W. Williford and Essie Moore Williford. She was a graduate of Union High School, Baptist College of Charleston (now Charleston Southern University) where she received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and the University of South Carolina where she received two Master's Degrees in Elementary Education and Library Science. Mrs. Wilson retired as Media Specialist at Jonesville Elementary School. While having worked with the Union County School District she had served as a teacher or librarian at Lockhart Schools, Buffalo Elementary School, Sims Jr. High School and Union High School. She was a former member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church and now a member of Sardis United Methodist Church. A Veteran of the United States Air Force Mrs. Wilson served for three years during Peace Time. Following her retirement, Mrs. Wilson volunteered at Monarch Elementary School as long as her health permitted. She was a Master Gardener and was a member of the Union Historical Society. Surviving in addition to her loving caregiver and husband, Charlie, are four children, Elizabeth "Beth" Diamaduros and husband Sammy of Union, Samuel "Sam" Phillips and wife Nicole of Charleston, Elizabeth Ireton and husband Mark of Jonesville and Charlie Wilson, III and wife Kasi of Jonesville; a sister, Lib Williford of Union; nine grandchildren, Ayden and Corbin Lancaster, Daniel Ireton, Garrett, Cooper, and Clark Wilson, Dean, Lenna, and Anastasia Diamaduros; a special niece, Sherri Franklin of Union and a special aunt, Ola Jean Kelly of Union. Mrs. Wilson was predeceased by one son, James Ashley Phillips, a grandson, Charles W. "Chas" Wilson, IV and a sister, Rebecca W. Lane. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Sardis United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Jeff Farmer, Rev. Lee Franklin, and Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Steven Addis, Charlie Kelly, Cecil Brown, Dean Lane, Mitch Lane, Lee Davis, Paul Wells, and Clint Wells. The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort, Ed Greer, Jane Wilkes, Lynn Austin, and Mary Creger. Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R.
