Mevelain Roger Owenby, Sr.

Mr. Mevelain "Roger" Owenby, SR., age 74, widower of Zora Lee Lankford Owenby passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023.

Mr. Owenby was born in Union, SC on August 4, 1948, a son of the late Johnnie Lewis Owenby, SR. and Mable Vanderford Owenby.  He was a 1968 graduate of Union High School and a member of Fairforest Baptist Church. Mr. Owenby was a retired long-haul truck driver owner and operator and he also worked in textiles for many years.

Surviving are two sisters, Carol Owenby Gault and Wanda Owenby Lockaby both of Union; one brother John Owenby, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; two step daughters, Wanda Vaughn Nix (Niles) of Enoree and Lori Vaughn Green of Woodruff; five step grandchildren, Chris Melton (Tonya), Eric Green, USMC LT. Dylan Green (Allie), Dallas Vaughn and Nikki Vaughn; seven step great-grandchildren, Layne Melton (Sara), Logan Melton (Molli), Emily, Bella and Atticus Vaughn, Bryson Lollis and Makenzie Lollis; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Owenby was predeceased by two sons, Mevelain Roger Owenby, Jr. and Kevin Dale Owenby; one sister, Karen Owenby and one step-son, Paul Vaughn.

Graveside services were held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Carroll Caldwell.

The family received friends immediately following the services at the cemetery.

The family will be at their respective homes.
