Nathaniel Sumner, Jr.

Mr. Nathaniel Sumner, Jr., age 73, husband of Patricia Mosier Sumner of 188 Canna Lane, Jonesville, went home to be with his Lord, Friday, November 6, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Sumner was born in Union, January 23, 1947 a son of the late Nathaniel Sumner, Sr. and Artie Mae Inman Hall. Mr. Sumner was a graduate of Union High School and received a Master's degree in Theology. He retired from the construction industry as a pipe fitter. Mr. Sumner was also an Evangelical minister and continued preaching after his retirement. He is a member of Hillside Baptist Church where he had held various offices in the church.

Mr. Sumner was active also with Faith Home in Greenwood for many years. He was a member of the Union Civitan Club and was a former member of the South Carolina National Guard, Jonesville Unit.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Carol Ann Haskett and husband Jerry of Jonesville, Sherrie Sumner and husband Wallace of Union, Katharine Elizabeth Fore and husband Sam of Dallas, TX and Jessica Hope Sumner of Boiling Springs; two sons, Steve Wix and Chris Wix both of Jonesville; two sisters, Diane Burgess and husband Loyd of Jonesville and Diane Taus and husband Vic of Union; a brother Roger Sumner and wife Sadie of Union; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren including Bayleigh Hollis of the home. Mr. Sumner was predeceased by an infant son, Charles Herbert Sumner; two sisters, Brenda Giles and Lou Inman and three brothers, Clarence Sumner, Terry Wayne Sumner and David Fowler.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, November 9, 2020 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Glenn Mosteller. Burial will follow in the family cemetery in Jonesville.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Monday at the chapel prior to the service.
