Nettie Faye (Montgomery) Bentley

Sunset Beach, NC

Nettie Faye Montgomery Bentley, age 93, of Union, SC formerly of Ocean Isle Beach, NC passed away on the morning of Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the home of her daughter in Sunset Beach, NC following a time of declining health.

Mrs. Bentley was born in Cherokee County, SC on June 15, 1930 and was the last surviving child of William Faris and Mary Jane Burns Montgomery. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Reverend Jesse Bentley, their son, Jesse Monte Bentley; her siblings, Nora Montgomery, Keaton Montgomery, D. B. Montgomery, Sudie Mae Fowler, Ruby Goforth, Clift Montgomery and Marvin "Shorty" Montgomery.

Mrs. Bentley graduated from Kelly Pinckney High School Class of 1947. She was a seamstress at Highlanders Sewing Plant in Shallotte for twenty years. She was an active member of Jennies Branch Baptist Church along with her husband Rev. Jesse Bentley for twenty-five years. After retirement they returned to their hometown Union, SC.  She joined Philippi Baptist Church where she served faithfully as WMU director, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and wherever she was needed. Mrs. Bentley was known for her beautiful handwriting. She sent many cards and letters to family and friends. She loved sewing, crafting, quilting, and reading.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Alicia "Leci" Bentley, Alexia "Lexi" B. Cribb and husband, US Air Force Col. Retired David Cribb; grandchildren, Major Adam Cribb (Michelle), Lillian Bentley (Morgan Inman), Katie Batey (Matt), Abigail Bentley (Chandler Taylor), Andrew Cribb, Hannah Underwood, Zoe McComb; Great Grandchildren, Aaron Cribb, Alexander Jesse (AJ) Cribb, Nellie Inman, Sutton Taylor, and Kendall Inman.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Philippi Baptist Church, 327 Philippi Baptist Church Road, Union SC 29379.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
