Mr. Nevil J. "Buddy" Thomas, age 78, of 1135 Lakeside Dr., Union, widower of Mary Gaden Thomas passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Mr. Thomas was born in Newberry, SC on November 10, 1936 a son of the late Johnny Brooks Thomas and Blanche Hucklabey Thomas. A Veteran of the U.S. Army Mr. Thomas served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Thomas was a retired Security Guard and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Robin Chaney and husband Jerry of Union; a son, James "Jimbo" Thomas of Union; a brother, Jerry Clifton Thomas and wife Susan of Whitmire; a granddaughter, Jennifer Chaney Phillips of Union; a great-granddaughter, Annesley Peyton Phillips of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother James Brooks Thomas and a sister, Mellie Thomas White. Funeral Services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Welcome Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Jarvis and Rev. David Berry. Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be John Horne, Jason Yarborough, Billy Ledford, Tommy Lane, Eddie Lane, and Danny Quinn. Members of Mr. Thomas' Adult Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group. Visitation will be held Saturday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
