Nicholas Kicidis

Mr. Nicholas Kicidis, age 99, of Myrtle Beach, SC passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Union Post Acute.  He was married to the late Grace Eunice Owens for 74 years prior to her death in 2019.

Nick was born in Union, SC on September 13, 1925, a son of the late Mitchell Demetrios and Lillie Gregory Kicidis.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.  He was predeceased by his sister Margaret K. Leventis, and his brothers James and Paul.  He was also predeceased by a niece, Tami Kicidis Howell.

Nick grew up in Union and graduated from Union High School in 1943.  Later in September of that same year, he enlisted in the US Coast Guard serving on ships in the Pacific and European Theaters during WW II supporting both combat and traditional duties.  He returned to Union after the war in 1946, and worked in the family restaurant, the Deluxe Cafe, and ABC Package Stores.

Nick became a stockbroker in the 1960's and worked at several investment firms in Spartanburg.  He moved to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1980, and continued to work with brokerage firms until he retired in 2015 at the age of 89.

Nick enjoyed the game of golf as long as he was able to play.  He was a club champion at Union Country Club for several years.  Quail hunting with his pointer, Sue, was another one of his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing.

Nick is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia K. Baker of Union and Catherine K. Christman and her husband Thomas E Leath of Myrtle Beach.  His grandchildren are Catie B. Burbage (Jon) of Murrells Inlet, Meredith A. Baker of Union, Nicholas K. Christman (Becca) and Austin K. Leath (Jessica) of Myrtle Beach.  His great grandchildren are Grant and Mary Grace Swift, Ava Burbage, and Wyatt and Owen Christman. He is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces.

Nick loved his pets dearly, and he was predeceased by Miss Kitty, his poodles Petey and Sissy, and his beloved Sue.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Union Post Acute, Wren Hospice, and his nurses and caregivers in Myrtle Beach for their care.

Memorials may be made to Union County Meals on Wheels, PO Box 951, Union SC, or to an animal rescue group such as Fur Baby Ranch, Carolina Poodle Rescue, Mercy Rescue Haven,  Last Chance Animal Rescue or Grateful Goldens of the Low Country.  These sites are online.

There will be a memorial service held from 1:00-1:30 pm on May 30th, 2025, followed by a time of visitation and refreshments until 3:30 pm at Main Street Junction in Union, SC, for family and friends.  Please dress casually.
