Mrs. Nira Dill Haney Nelson, age 90, formerly of Union, widow of Clyde Nelson, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Union Medical Center. She was first married to the late Harry "Hooker" Haney, Sr.

Mrs. Nelson was born in Union, October 27, 1933, a daughter of the late William T. Dill and Lois Sanders Dill. A graduate of Union High School, she was a homemaker for many years and had worked in childcare where she shared her love of children. She worked in a flower shop where she used her creative talents. Mrs. Nelson was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling.

An active member of Grace United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Johnny Sanders Circle. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly.

Surviving are two daughters, Terri Canine and husband Bill of Alpharetta, GA, and Kim Buddington and husband Mike of Union; a son, Tony Haney and wife Amy of Boiling Springs; a sister, Ferrel Mefford of Florence, AL and a brother, Eddie Dill of Spartanburg. She is also survived by grandchildren, Matthew Canine and wife Kristin, Betsy Abee and husband Matthew, Blake Haney and wife Skyler, and great-grandchildren, Jack Abee, Scarlett Abee, Peyton Abee, Ethan Abee and Lincoln Haney. She was predeceased by a grandson Stephen Canine and a brother, Billy Dill.

The family would like to say a special Thank You to the staff and caregivers of Rosecrest Assisted Living for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Nelson during her time living there. Also a special Thank You to the staff, nurses and doctors of Union Medical Center and Spartanburg Regional Hospice Care for the care shown during her final days.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Lee Phillips. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Sunday in the church parlor prior to the services.
